“You’re young. Enjoy yourself.”
“Just try it once.”
“Everyone is doing it.”
“You won’t know if you don’t experience it.”
Young Muslims hear statements like these all the time.
But Islam teaches us that we don’t need to experience every temptation before knowing that it can harm us.
Allah says: “Do not go near zina. Indeed, it is an immoral act and a terrible way.”Qur’an 17:32
Notice the wording.
Allah does not only say, “Do not commit zina.”
He says: “Do not go near zina.”
PROTECT YOURSELF BEFORE THE SIN
Sometimes avoiding a major sin means avoiding the things that lead towards it.
That could mean setting boundaries in relationships.
Avoiding inappropriate conversations.
Being careful about what you watch.
Not meeting someone privately when you know it could lead to temptation.
Choosing good friends.
And refusing to entertain situations that you know are pulling you away from Allah.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO PROVE YOURSELF
You don’t become mature by trying everything.
You don’t become experienced by entering every relationship.
You don’t become brave by ignoring Allah’s boundaries.
Real maturity is knowing when to say:
“No. This is not for me.”
You can walk away even when everyone else stays.
You can refuse even when people laugh at you.
You can protect your heart even when temptation is strong.
DON’T LET CURIOSITY CONTROL YOU
Sometimes Shaytan uses curiosity:
“What does it feel like?”
“Let me just see.”
“I’ll stop before anything happens.”
But a person may gradually move further than they planned.
That is why Islam teaches prevention, not only regret after the damage has been done.
IF YOU HAVE ALREADY FALLEN
If you have made mistakes, don’t give up.
Allah’s door of repentance is open.
Stop the sin.
Ask Allah for forgiveness.
Remove yourself from what leads you towards it.
And start again.
Your past does not have to determine your future.
You don’t have to touch fire to know it can burn you.
HEART CHECK
You don’t have to experience every sin to know that Allah’s boundaries are there for your protection.
