WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER DELAY YOUR SALAH WITHOUT A VALID REASON
“I will pray after this movie.”
“Let me finish this assignment first.”
“I will pray when I am done using my phone.”
These are some of the excuses people make when they keep postponing Salah. What begins as a few minutes of delay can eventually become a habit of neglecting prayer until the last moment or even missing it completely.
As Muslims, we must understand that Salah is not an activity we fit into our schedules only when everything else is finished. It is one of the most important obligations in our lives.
SALAH HAS PRESCRIBED TIMES
Allah says:
“Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times.” Qur’an 4:103
This verse reminds us that the five daily prayers have appointed times.
Allah has not instructed us to pray only when we feel free or when we have completed every other activity.
Whether you are a student, business owner, worker or parent, your daily responsibilities should not make you forget your obligation to Allah.
WHAT MAKES US DELAY SALAH?
Sometimes, the problem is not that we do not know Salah is important. It is that we have allowed other activities to take priority.
We may spend hours scrolling through social media but struggle to take a few minutes for prayer.
We may wake up early for work or school but find it difficult to wake up for Fajr.
We may remember every appointment but repeatedly forget our appointments with Allah.
This should make us reflect on how we organise our time and what we give importance to.
MAKE SALAH PART OF YOUR DAILY SCHEDULE
Instead of waiting until you finish everything before praying, organise your activities around the prayer times.
– Set reminders for the five daily prayers.
– Make arrangements for Salah when travelling or going to work.
– Identify a suitable prayer space when you are outside your home.
– Avoid starting activities that you know will make you miss prayer.
– Make an effort to wake up for Fajr instead of repeatedly postponing your alarm.
If you have missed a prayer, do not ignore it or allow shame to keep you away from worship. Repent sincerely and make up the missed prayer according to Islamic guidance.
DO NOT LET TEMPORARY ACTIVITIES TAKE PRIORITY OVER YOUR DEEN
Movies end. Conversations end. Work assignments are eventually completed. Social media trends change.
But your responsibility towards Allah remains.
Do not allow temporary activities to become more important than an obligation that connects you to your Creator.
REFLECTION: If someone examined how you spend your day, would your schedule show that Salah is one of your priorities?
DU’A: O Allah, help me establish my prayers at their appointed times. Do not allow worldly responsibilities to distract me from remembering You. Make Salah beloved to my heart. Ameen.
