Sometimes protecting your faith requires making difficult decisions.
During the early days of Islam in Makkah, the Muslims faced persecution and hardship.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed some of his companions to migrate to Abyssinia, where they could find safety under the rule of a just Christian king, known as the Negus (Najashi).
Leaving Makkah was not easy.
Imagine leaving your home, your family, your community and everything familiar because you needed a safer place to practise your faith.
Yet the companions made that difficult journey.
Their story teaches today’s youth that sometimes you have to make uncomfortable choices to protect what matters most.
WHAT CAN YOUTH LEARN?
1. Protect your faith.
Your relationship with Allah should be one of the things you take seriously.
If an environment constantly pushes you toward sin, you may need to create distance from it.
2. Difficult decisions can be necessary.
Doing the right thing is not always the easiest option.
3. Islam teaches justice and fairness.
The Muslims sought protection from a ruler who was not Muslim because he was known for justice. This shows the importance of recognising and appreciating justice wherever it is found.
4. Don’t be afraid to seek safety and help.
When facing serious difficulties, seek help from trustworthy people rather than trying to handle everything alone.
A LESSON FOR TODAY’S YOUTH
Maybe your “migration” is not moving to another country.
Maybe it means leaving a harmful friendship.
Maybe it means distancing yourself from inappropriate content.
Maybe it means changing the environment that constantly pulls you away from Salah.
Maybe it means choosing a new circle of friends who support your deen.
Sometimes getting closer to Allah requires leaving something behind.
HEART CHECK
The companions left what was familiar because protecting their faith mattered to them.
Ask yourself:
What am I holding onto that is slowly taking me away from Allah?
Sometimes the first step toward a better life is having the courage to leave what is harming your faith.
