RESPECT YOUR PARENTS BEFORE THE OPPORTUNITY IS GONE

When you are young, it can sometimes feel as though your parents will always be there.

You may become annoyed when they correct you.

You may feel they don’t understand you.

You may even respond harshly when they ask you to do something.

But one day, you may wish you could hear their voice again.

Islam places tremendous importance on treating parents with kindness.

The Prophet ﷺ was asked which deed is most beloved to Allah. He mentioned **prayer at its proper time**, followed by **kindness to parents Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim

YOUR PARENTS ARE NOT YOUR ENEMIES

Sometimes parents say “no” because they are trying to protect you.

Sometimes their advice may feel old-fashioned.

Sometimes they correct you because they see dangers you don’t yet understand.

You may disagree with them, but disagreement does not give you permission to insult or disrespect them.

DON’T WAIT UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE

There are people who would give anything to have one more conversation with their parents.

One more hug.

One more opportunity to say, **“Thank you.”**

One more chance to say, **“I’m sorry.”**

If your parents are still with you, don’t take that blessing for granted.

Help them.

Speak gently to them.

Check on them.

Make dua for them.

And when they correct you, try to listen before reacting.

START TODAY

You don’t need money to make your parents happy.

Wash the dishes.

Help around the house.

Ask how they are doing.

Give them a hug.

Make dua for them.

And say the words many young people forget to say:

“Thank you, Mum.” “Thank you, Dad.”

HEART CHECK

Your parents may not be perfect, but every young Muslim should understand the honour Islam has given them.

Love and respect your parents while you still have the opportunity. One day, you may wish you had done more.
