THE EXAMPLE OF A GOOD COMPANION AND A BAD COMPANION
Have you ever noticed that you slowly begin to talk, dress, think, or behave like the people you spend the most time with?
That is why choosing friends is not a small decision.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The example of a good companion and a bad companion is like that of the musk seller and the blacksmith.”**
— Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim
A good companion is like someone who sells perfume. Even if you don’t buy anything, you may still leave with a beautiful fragrance.
A bad companion is like a blacksmith. You may get burned by the sparks, or at the very least, leave carrying an unpleasant smell.
YOUR FRIENDS ARE INFLUENCING YOU
Your friends influence the things you consider normal.
If your friends love Salah, you are more likely to remember Salah.
If they value knowledge, they can motivate you to learn.
If they respect their parents, you may learn from their example.
But if your friends constantly encourage you towards sin, mock religion, or pressure you into things you know are wrong, you may eventually begin to accept those behaviours.
NOT EVERY FRIEND IS GOOD FOR YOUR DEEN
Someone can make you laugh and still be a bad influence.
Someone can be popular and still lead you away from Allah.
Someone can be fun to spend time with and still damage your character.
Friendship is not only about having fun together. **The right friend helps you become a better person.
CHOOSE WISELY
Look for friends who remind you of Allah.
Friends who correct you with kindness.
Friends who want to see you succeed.
Friends who don’t pressure you into haram.
Friends who will encourage you when your iman is weak.
And most importantly, **be that kind of friend to others.**
Before asking, “Do I have good friends?” ask yourself:
“Am I a good friend?”
Your friendship can either become a path towards goodness or a reason for regret.
HEART CHRCK
Choose the people you walk with carefully, because the company you keep can influence the person you become.
