Growing up comes with many changes. Your body changes, your emotions change, and you may begin experiencing things you have never experienced before.
One of those things can be **wet dreams**.
For some young Muslims, this can be confusing or embarrassing. But there is absolutely nothing shameful about learning the Islamic ruling concerning it.
WHAT IS A WET DREAM?
A wet dream is when a person experiences a sexual dream during sleep and then notices the discharge associated with it after waking.
It can happen naturally during puberty and does not mean that a person has deliberately committed a sin.
DOES A WET DREAM REQUIRE GHUSL?
If a person wakes up and finds the relevant sexual discharge, then **Ghusl becomes obligatory** before performing Salah.
The Prophet ﷺ explained the ruling concerning seeing the discharge after a dream.
The important point is that **the dream itself is not the reason for Ghusl; the presence of the discharge is what matters.
If someone remembers having a dream but finds no discharge, Ghusl is not required simply because of the dream.
WHAT IF IT HAPPENS DURING THE NIGHT?
Don’t panic.
Wake up, perform Ghusl properly, and then pray.
If you discover it after Fajr time has entered, perform Ghusl and pray Fajr. Don’t abandon Salah because you’re embarrassed or confused.
IS IT A SIN?
No.
A person does not choose what they dream about while sleeping.
Allah does not hold you accountable for something beyond your control.
What matters is how you respond when you wake up.

Islam recognises that reaching puberty marks an important stage in a person’s religious responsibility.
This is why young Muslims should learn about:
* Wudu
* Ghusl
* Salah
* Fasting
* Awrah
* Menstruation
* Other rules relating to purification
These aren’t embarrassing topics.
**They are part of learning your Deen.**

Don’t be afraid to ask genuine questions about puberty and Taharah.
You don’t become less modest by learning.
In fact, learning the correct Islamic rulings helps you protect your modesty and worship Allah correctly.
