Youth is a gift.
It is a time of strength, energy, learning and opportunity. But because we often feel that we have plenty of time ahead of us, we can easily spend our youth without thinking about what we are building for the future.
The Prophet ﷺ reminded us: “Take advantage of five before five…” including “your youth before your old age.”
One day, your youth will become a memory.
The late nights, the friendships, the decisions, the opportunities and the choices you made will all become part of your story.
What kind of story will it be?
Will you remember a youth spent chasing temporary attention and approval?
Or will you remember the years when you discovered Allah, strengthened your iman, sought knowledge, helped others and worked towards becoming a better Muslim?
You don’t have to give up everything enjoyable to practise Islam.
You can dream.
You can build a career.
You can have friends.
You can enjoy halal entertainment.
You can pursue your goals.
But don’t allow the dunya to become so important that you forget the One who gave you life in the first place.
And if you have already made mistakes, don’t give up.
Allah says: “Do not despair of the mercy of Allah.”— Qur’an 39:53»
You still have an opportunity to change.
Don’t wait until your youth is gone before you realise how valuable it was.
Use it wisely.
Use it for Allah.
Use it for something that your future self—and your Hereafter—will be proud of.
