In a world where almost everything is shared, there is something beautiful about doing something good and keeping it between yourself and Allah.
Today, people share their achievements, celebrations, donations, travels and even acts of kindness online.
Sometimes we want people to know what we have done.
We want the likes.
We want the comments.
We want someone to say, “MashaAllah, you’re such a good person.”
But what happens when you do something good and nobody knows?
Would you still do it?
WHEN ONLY ALLAH KNOWS
Imagine helping someone and receiving no thank-you.
Imagine giving charity and nobody knows your name.
Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to pray while everyone else is sleeping.
Imagine making sincere dua for someone who doesn’t even know you remembered them.
There is something incredibly special about a good deed that exists only between you and Allah.
You don’t need an audience.
You don’t need applause.
You don’t need recognition.
You simply need to know that Allah saw you.
Allah says: “And whatever good you put forward for yourselves—you will find it with Allah.” Qur’an 73:20»
That means your good deeds do not become worthless simply because people didn’t notice them.
Allah noticed.
NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE POSTED
Social media has made it easy to document almost everything we do.
You help someone—take a picture.
You donate—make a post.
You volunteer—share the experience.
There can be legitimate reasons to share good deeds, especially when encouraging others to do good.
But we also need to ask ourselves an honest question:
“Am I doing this for Allah, or do I need people to see me doing it?”
The heart can change very quickly.
An act that began sincerely can become mixed with the desire for attention.
That is why sincerity is something we must constantly protect.
TRY HAVING A SECRET DEED
Choose something good that nobody knows about.
Maybe it is giving a small amount of charity regularly.
Maybe it is helping someone quietly.
Maybe it is making dua for someone.
Maybe it is praying extra salah.
Maybe it is helping your parents without announcing it.
Maybe it is forgiving someone without telling everyone about it.
Let it belong to you and Allah.
You don’t need to tell anyone.
And when nobody praises you, remind yourself:
“Allah knows.”
That should be enough.
YOUR PRIVATE LIFE MATTERS
A person can have thousands of followers and still have an empty relationship with Allah.
Another person may have almost no online presence but have a beautiful private relationship with their Creator.
Your real success is not determined by how impressive your life looks to people.
It is determined by what Allah knows about you.
So don’t only work on the version of yourself that people can see.
Work on the version of yourself that only Allah sees.
HEART CHECK
Ask yourself:
“If nobody would ever know about the good I do, would I still do it?” If the answer is yes, protect that sincerity.
And if the answer is no, don’t despair. Use the question as an opportunity to work on your heart.
Because sometimes the most valuable deed in your life may be the one that nobody else ever knows you did.
