The return airlift of Nigerian pilgrims from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia commenced today with the departure of 560 pilgrims from Nasarawa State, marking the beginning of the homebound phase of the 2026 Hajj operations after approximately 30 days in the Kingdom.

Three additional return flights are scheduled to depart later today.

As the return phase gathers momentum, pilgrims are advised to strictly adhere to the approved baggage allowance of two checked-in bags weighing 23 kilograms each and one piece of hand luggage not exceeding 8 kilograms. Multiple hand luggage items will not be permitted.

Pilgrims should note that luggage screening will take place 48 hours before their scheduled departure. This measure is designed to ensure that luggage arrives ahead of passengers, enabling quicker collection upon arrival in Nigeria. Compliance with the screening process will facilitate smoother clearance procedures and timely departures.

NAHCON further reminds pilgrims not to include Zamzam water or any prohibited items in their luggage, as such items will be confiscated during screening, potentially exposing bags to tampering. Prohibited items include flammable substances such as lighter fluid, lithium batteries and power banks packed in checked baggage, aerosols, excessive quantities of liquids, and sharp objects in hand luggage.

Meanwhile, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) continues to appreciate the cooperation, support, and understanding demonstrated by the four official air carriers, all of which commenced operations on schedule despite concerns over the high cost of aviation fuel.

The Commission also reiterates the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the air carriers and ensuring that they do not incur losses in the course of the return airlift operation.
