WHY YOUNG MUSLIMS ARE LOSING THEIR CONNECTION WITH THE QUR’AN

Many young Muslims have a Qur’an somewhere in their homes.

But having a Qur’an is not the same as having a relationship with the Qur’an.

In a world filled with notifications, short videos, entertainment and endless scrolling, finding time to sit quietly with the words of Allah can become difficult.

The question is not simply, “Do young Muslims own or read the Qur’an?”

The deeper question is: Does the Qur’an still have a place in their daily lives?

TOO MUCH NOISE, TOO LITTLE REFLECTION

Young people are constantly surrounded by information.

Every day brings new videos, opinions, trends, arguments and entertainment.

Our minds can become so used to constant stimulation that sitting quietly with the Qur’an may feel difficult.

But the Qur’an calls us to slow down and reflect.

Allah says: “Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’an, or are there locks upon their hearts?”  Qur’an 47:24

The Qur’an is not meant to be background noise. It is guidance.

SOMETIMES WE ONLY READ WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING

Learning to recite the Qur’an is a beautiful achievement.

But we should also make an effort to understand what we are reciting.

When you understand the meaning of a verse, you may begin to see how it connects with your own struggles.

A verse about patience may speak to you when you are frustrated.

A verse about repentance may reach you when you feel guilty.

A verse about Allah’s mercy may give you hope when you feel far away.

THE QUR’AN SPEAKS TO REAL LIFE

The Qur’an addresses fear, sadness, temptation, family, friendship, wealth, patience, injustice, success, failure and the Hereafter.

These are not distant issues.

They are part of everyday life.

This is why young Muslims should not see the Qur’an as something meant only for older people or scholars.

The Qur’an is guidance for every believer.

START SMALL

If you have lost your connection with the Qur’an, you do not have to begin with an unrealistic goal.

Start with a few verses each day.

Read the translation.

Listen to the recitation.

Learn the meaning of the surah you use most often in salah.

Write down one lesson and try to practise it.

Consistency matters.

MAKE THE QUR’AN PART OF YOUR LIFE

Create a Qur’an routine that fits your life.

Perhaps after Fajr.

Perhaps before sleeping.

Perhaps during a quiet period in the afternoon.

Put your phone away for a few minutes and give Allah’s words your attention.

Over time, those few minutes can become one of the most important parts of your day.

COME BACK TO THE QUR’AN

If your relationship with the Qur’an has weakened, do not think you have gone too far.

Open it again.

Read again.

Listen again.

Reflect again.

Allah sent the Qur’an as guidance and mercy. “Indeed, this Qur’an guides to that which is most suitable.” Qur’an 17:9

Your phone may tell you what is trending today.

Friends may tell you what is popular.

Society may tell you who you should become.

But the Qur’an reminds you who you are, why you are here and where you are ultimately going.

HEART CHECK

Do not let the noise of the world become louder than the words of your Creator.
