ILEYA IN NIGERIA: TRADITIONS VS SUNNAH
Eid al-Adha, popularly known as Ileya in Nigeria, is one of the most joyful and spiritually significant times for Muslims. It is a period filled with sacrifice, celebration, generosity, and gratitude to Allah.
However, over time, cultural practices have blended with religious obligations, sometimes strengthening the experience and at other times distracting from the true essence of the Sunnah.
Understanding the difference between tradition and Sunnah helps ensure that our worship remains pure, accepted, and aligned with the teachings of Islam.
THE TRUE PURPOSE OF ILEYA
Eid al-Adha is rooted in the legacy of Prophet Ibrahim, who demonstrated complete obedience to Allah by being willing to sacrifice his son.
Allah replaced the sacrifice with a ram, establishing Qurbani as an act of worship for Muslims.
