HOW TO DEAL WITH REGRET AS A MUSLIM
“I wish I had never done that.”
“I wish I had made a different decision.”
“I wish I could go back.”
Almost everyone has something they regret.
Maybe you trusted the wrong person.
Maybe you made a bad decision.
Maybe you committed a sin.
Maybe you missed an opportunity.
Maybe you hurt someone you loved.
Regret can be painful, but as a Muslim, you should never allow regret to convince you that your story is finished.
Allah says:
«“Say, ‘O My servants who have transgressed against their souls! Do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Surely Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, He is the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.’”
Qur’an 39:53»
REGRET CAN TEACH YOU
Not every painful experience has to be wasted.
Sometimes regret teaches you what you should never repeat.
It can make you more careful.
It can make you appreciate Allah’s guidance.
It can help you understand your weaknesses.
Instead of constantly saying, “I wish I could change the past,” ask:
“What can I learn from it?”
DON’T LET SHAYTAN USE YOUR PAST AGAINST YOU
After making a mistake, Shaytan may whisper:
“You are a terrible Muslim.”
“Allah will never forgive you.”
“You have gone too far.”
Don’t believe these whispers.
If you sincerely repent and return to Allah, never lose hope in His mercy.
TURN REGRET INTO TAUBAH
If you sinned, repent.
If you hurt someone, apologise.
If you made a bad decision, learn from it.
If you wasted time, use the time you have left wisely.
You cannot change yesterday, but you can change what you do today.
YOUR PAST DOES NOT HAVE TO BECOME YOUR FUTURE
Your mistake is something you did.
It does not have to become who you are.
Allah’s mercy is greater than your mistakes.
So don’t spend your entire life staring at a door that has already closed.
Learn.
Repent.
Grow.
Move forward.
HEART CHECK
Regret should bring you closer to Allah, not make you run away from Him.
