THE FIRST MUSLIMS: WHY WERE MANY OF THEM YOUNG?
When Islam began spreading in Makkah, many of the people who accepted the message were young.
Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA) was young.
Mus’ab ibn Umair (RA) was young.
Arqam ibn Abi al-Arqam (RA)was young.
Usamah ibn Zaid (RA) later became a young leader among the Muslims.
These young believers were not waiting until they became old before taking Islam seriously.
They believed, learned, sacrificed and served Allah while they were still young.
This should change the way young Muslims see themselves.
You may think:
“I’m still young. I’ll become serious about my deen later.”
But the early Muslims show us that youth is not a period that should simply be wasted.
It is an opportunity.
You have energy.
You have time.
You can learn.
You can develop good habits.
You can serve others.
You can become closer to Allah.
YOUR YOUTH IS AN AMANAH
Your youth will not last forever.
The time you spend today scrolling endlessly, following trends and chasing people’s approval will eventually become part of your past.
So use your youth wisely.
Learn Qur’an.
Improve your salah.
Learn about the Seerah.
Choose good friends.
Develop useful skills.
Help your family.
Serve your community.
Stay away from what displeases Allah.
LESSONS FOR TODAY’S YOUTH
Don’t say, “I’m too young to make a difference.”
The early Muslims prove otherwise.
Don’t wait until you’re older to become serious about Allah.
Start with what you can do today.
Don’t underestimate small deeds.
A small good deed done sincerely can be beloved to Allah.
HEART CHECK
Many of the people who helped build the early Muslim community were young. They did not ask, “Am I old enough?” They asked, “How can I serve Allah?” And that is a question every young Muslim should ask themselves today.
