Prophet Muhammad ﷺ understood the importance of young people.
He taught them, listened to them, trusted them and gave them opportunities to contribute.
Young companions were not treated as people who had nothing useful to offer.
They learned directly from the Prophet ﷺ and became teachers, leaders, scholars and contributors to the Muslim community.
This gives parents, teachers and older Muslims an important lesson:
Young people need guidance, but they also need trust and responsibility.
WHAT CAN YOUTH LEARN?
1. You have a place in the Ummah.
Don’t think that you have to become older before you can contribute.
2. Learn from people with knowledge and good character
The young companions grew because they had access to the Prophet ﷺ and other knowledgeable Muslims.
3. Accept responsibility.
Look for ways to serve your family, school, mosque and community.
4. Be willing to learn.
Being trusted with responsibility does not mean you already know everything. Keep learning.
A LESSON FOR ADULTS TOO
Young people should not only be criticised for their weaknesses.
They should also be taught, encouraged and given opportunities to grow.
A young Muslim who receives proper guidance today may become a leader, teacher, parent or community worker tomorrow.
HEART CHECK
The Prophet ﷺ did not ignore the youth.
