Who are you when nobody is watching?
When your phone is in your hand and your parents are not around?
When you are alone in your room?
When nobody will know what you are watching, saying, searching for or doing?
These moments may feel private, but they are never hidden from Allah.
Allah says: “Whether you conceal what is in your hearts or reveal it, Allah knows it. He knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And Allah is over all things competent.” Qur’an 3:154
And Allah also says:
“He knows the secret and what is even more hidden.” Qur’an 20:7
WHO ARE YOU WHEN NOBODY IS WATCHING?
It is easy to look religious when people are watching.
You can pray when your parents remind you.
You can dress properly when you are going to the mosque.
You can post Islamic reminders online.
But your relationship with Allah is also revealed by what you do when there is no audience.
Do you still pray?
Do you still avoid haram?
Do you still lower your gaze?
Do you still control what you watch?
Do you still remember Allah?
YOUR PHONE MAY BE PRIVATE, BUT YOUR DEEDS ARE NOT
Young Muslims today have access to things previous generations could never access so easily.
With one phone, you can watch beneficial lectures, read Qur’an and learn about Islam.
But that same phone can also become a doorway to things that damage your iman.
Before clicking, searching or watching something, remember:
Allah sees you.
You may delete the history.
You may hide the message.
You may clear the chat.
But you cannot hide anything from Allah.
THIS IS NOT MEANT TO SCARE YOU
It is meant to remind you that you are never alone.
When you are struggling, Allah sees you.
When you are crying privately, Allah knows.
When you are fighting a temptation and choose to walk away, Allah knows.
When you make tawbah after falling into sin, Allah knows.
Your private good deeds matter too.
The two rak‘ahs nobody knows about.
The Qur’an you read quietly.
The charity you gave without telling anyone.
The du’a you made when nobody heard you.
These are all known to Allah.
BUILD A PRIVATE RELATIONSHIP WITH ALLAH
Don’t make your entire deen something you only practise publicly.
Have moments that belong only to you and Allah.
Pray.
Make du’a.
Read Qur’an.
Remember Allah.
Repent when you make mistakes.
And when you are tempted to do something wrong because you think nobody will find out, remember:
You don’t need people to see you for your actions to matter. Allah sees you.
HEART CHECK
Your private life is part of your relationship with Allah.
So make sure the person you are when nobody is watching is someone you would be proud to meet Allah as.
