Long before the world knew him as Muhammad (SAW) before he received revelation, before the Qur’an was revealed to him, and before he became the beloved Messenger of Allah, there was a woman carrying a very special child.
Her name was Aminah bint Wahb, the mother of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
His story did not begin when he became a Prophet at the age of forty. Allah had already chosen him for an extraordinary mission long before that.
A PREGNANCY SURROUNDED BY BLESSINGS
The early life of the Prophet (SAW) contains accounts of remarkable events surrounding his birth.
Among the reports found in the books of seerah is that Aminah experienced a special dream in which she was informed that she was carrying a child and was instructed regarding his name. Some narrations also mention that she was told of his future importance.
There are also reports about a light associated with his birth. A well-known narration from Al-Irbad ibn Sariyah reports that the mother of the Prophet (SAW) saw a light when she gave birth to him that illuminated the palaces of Syria. Scholars have discussed the chains and details of these reports, so we should be careful not to present every popular story about Aminah’s pregnancy as unquestionably authentic.
What we can say with certainty is that Allah had chosen Muhammad (SAW) for a tremendous mission.
His life was part of Allah’s plan from before his birth.
And that gives us a powerful lesson.
YOUR STORY DOES NOT BEGIN WITH YOUR CURRENT SITUATION
Imagine looking at Aminah while she was carrying her child.
She could not see the future.
She did not know everything that would happen.
She did not know that the child in her womb would one day stand in Makkah calling people to worship Allah alone.
She did not know that his name would be mentioned across the world.
She did not know that millions would send blessings upon him but Allah knew and sometimes, that is all we need to remember.
You may not know what Allah has planned for your life, but Allah already knows.
You may look at yourself today and see your mistakes, struggles, weaknesses or uncertainty.
Allah sees what you can become.
LESSONS FOR EVERY YOUNG MUSLIM
1. Never underestimate what Allah can make of your life.
The Prophet (SAW) began his earthly life as an orphan-to-be. His father, Abdullah, died before he was born.
Yet Allah raised him to become the greatest messenger to humanity.
Your circumstances today do not determine the greatness of what Allah can accomplish through you.
2. Allah’s plan can be bigger than what you can see.
Aminah could not see the entire journey ahead.
Likewise, you may be worried because you don’t know what will happen with your education, career, marriage, finances or future.
Do your part and trust Allah.
You don’t need to know the whole road before taking the next right step.
3. Being young does not mean being insignificant.
The Prophet (SAW) was chosen by Allah before he was even born.
Your age does not make you worthless.
You can worship Allah, learn, serve people, encourage others and make a difference while you are still young.
4. Your parents’ circumstances do not determine your destiny.
The Prophet (SAW) experienced the loss of his father before he was born and later lost his mother while he was still a child.
Yet those difficult beginnings did not prevent him from fulfilling his mission.
A difficult family situation, financial struggle or painful childhood does not mean your future is finished.
5. Allah can bring greatness from unexpected places.
Muhammad (SAW) was born in Makkah, among a people surrounded by idolatry and many forms of ignorance.
Yet from that environment came the final Messenger of Allah.
So don’t say:
“Nothing good can come from someone like me.”
Allah is the One who transforms lives.
6. Don’t chase greatness; chase Allah’s pleasure.
The Prophet (SAW) did not become great because he chased fame.
He became beloved because he was devoted to Allah and fulfilled the responsibility Allah gave him.
For today’s youth, this is important.
Don’t make popularity your goal.
Don’t make social media attention your goal.
Don’t make money your only goal.
Don’t make people’s approval your goal.
Make Allah’s pleasure your goal.
A MESSAGE TO THE YOUNG PERSON READING THIS
Perhaps you feel like you are behind.
Perhaps everyone around you seems to be progressing while you are still trying to figure yourself out.
Perhaps you have made mistakes that you regret.
Remember the story of the Prophet (SAW).
His life teaches us that a person’s beginning does not have to look like their ending.
Allah can take a life that seems ordinary and give it extraordinary purpose.
So keep praying, keep learning, keep your heart close to Allah and stay away from what can destroy your future.
And don’t give up on yourself simply because you cannot yet see what Allah is preparing for you.
BEFORE HE WAS KNOWN TO THE WORLD, ALLAH KNEW HIM
Before Muhammad (SAW)was known by the people of Makkah, Allah knew him.
Before he stood on the mountain of Hira, Allah knew him.
Before revelation came, Allah knew the mission ahead of him.
And before you became who you are today, Allah already knew you.
You may not know what tomorrow holds.
But you know Who holds tomorrow.

Trust Allah. Keep walking. Keep your deen. Keep your hope.
Your story is not over and sometimes, the chapter you are struggling through today is preparing you for something you cannot yet see.
