Friday is the best day of the week for the Muslim. It is a day filled with blessings, opportunities for worship, and moments in which Allah’s mercy is abundant. Among its greatest virtues is the existence of a special period during the day when Allah accepts the supplications of His servants.
The Prophet ﷺ informed the Ummah that there is an hour on Friday during which, if a Muslim asks Allah for something good, Allah grants it. This makes Friday unlike any other day of the week.
Because of this promise, every Muslim should approach Friday with hope, sincerity, and determination to increase in dua.
The scholars have differed regarding the exact timing of this blessed hour.
One opinion is that it occurs between the time the Imam sits on the pulpit and the end of the Jumu’ah prayer.
Another opinion, which many scholars regarded as stronger based on the available evidence, is that it falls during the last part of Friday after the Asr prayer until sunset.
Rather than becoming occupied with identifying the exact moment, a believer should strive to increase their supplications throughout the day. By doing so, they increase their chances of benefiting from this blessed time.
Unfortunately, many Muslims allow Friday to pass without making sincere dua.
Some spend the day entirely at work.
Others become occupied with social media, entertainment, or shopping.
Some attend Jumu’ah but forget that one of the greatest acts of worship on Friday is to call upon Allah with humility and certainty.
This is a missed opportunity.
Allah loves those who ask Him.
No matter how great your worries are, Allah is greater.
No matter how difficult your situation appears, Allah has power over all things.
Friday is the perfect day to present your needs before your Lord.
Ask Allah to forgive your sins.
Ask Him to guide your children.
Ask Him to bless your marriage.
Ask Him to grant halal sustenance.
Ask Him to cure your illnesses.
Ask Him to remove your worries.
Ask Him to grant success in this world and the Hereafter.
Do not limit your dua to worldly matters alone.
Pray for firmness upon Islam.
Pray for beneficial knowledge.
Pray for sincerity in worship.
Pray for protection from trials.
Pray for a good ending and admission into Jannah without reckoning.
It is also a beautiful practice to make dua for others.
Pray for your parents, whether they are alive or deceased.
Pray for your spouse and children.
Pray for relatives, neighbours, friends, and teachers.
Pray for Muslims who are suffering hardship in different parts of the world.
Pray for those who have requested your prayers.
One of the etiquettes of making dua is to begin by praising Allah and sending abundant salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ before presenting your requests. Make your dua with humility, confidence, and certainty that Allah hears every word.
Another important point is not to become impatient.
Sometimes Allah answers immediately.
Sometimes He delays the answer because it is better for His servant.
Sometimes He replaces the request with something even better.
Sometimes He protects the believer from a calamity because of that dua.
No sincere supplication is ever wasted.
If possible, set aside some quiet time after Asr on Friday.
Turn off unnecessary distractions.
Put away your phone.
Face the Qiblah if convenient.
Raise your hands and speak to Allah sincerely.
These moments may become among the most valuable minutes of your entire week.
Every Friday is a gift from Allah.
It is another opportunity to seek His forgiveness, increase in worship, and present your hopes, fears, and dreams before Him.
Do not let this blessed day pass like any other day.
Seek the special hour.
Fill your Friday with remembrance of Allah.
Increase your salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ.
Recite Surah Al-Kahf.
Attend Jumu’ah with sincerity.
And never underestimate the power of a heartfelt dua made on a blessed Friday.
