KEEP YOUR HEART FREE FROM HATRED AND ENVY

A healthy heart is one of the greatest blessings a Muslim can possess. While people often focus on outward acts of worship, Islam also gives great importance to the condition of the heart. A heart filled with faith, sincerity, and love for Allah finds peace, whereas a heart consumed by hatred, jealousy, and resentment becomes restless.

Envy is among the diseases that silently destroy good deeds. It causes a person to become unhappy with the blessings Allah has given others instead of appreciating the blessings Allah has given them. Rather than inspiring gratitude, envy fills the heart with dissatisfaction and bitterness.

A believer understands that Allah distributes His blessings according to His perfect wisdom. One person may be blessed with wealth, another with knowledge, another with good health, and another with righteous children. Comparing ourselves with others only distracts us from recognising Allah’s countless favours upon us.

Likewise, holding grudges against fellow Muslims harms the one carrying the grudge more than anyone else. Forgiveness does not mean approving wrongdoing, but it means freeing the heart from unnecessary hatred and leaving ultimate justice to Allah.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged Muslims to love for their brothers and sisters what they love for themselves. This beautiful teaching creates unity, compassion, and mutual support within the Ummah.

If you find feelings of jealousy creeping into your heart, turn them into du’a. Ask Allah to bless the person even more and ask Him to grant you goodness from His limitless bounty. This practice weakens envy and strengthens contentment.

As you move through this week, pray for the success of others instead of feeling threatened by it. Celebrate the achievements of your fellow Muslims, offer sincere congratulations, and remember that another person’s blessing does not reduce your own provision.

A heart that is free from hatred and envy is lighter, happier, and more focused on pleasing Allah. Such a heart finds tranquillity in this world and, by the mercy of Allah, will find even greater peace in the Hereafter.
