REMEMBER THAT THIS LIFE IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION
It is easy to become attached to the comforts and attractions of this world. We spend years pursuing wealth, education, careers, and personal ambitions. While Islam encourages lawful effort and excellence in our worldly affairs, it also reminds us that this life is temporary. Our real and everlasting home is the Hereafter.
Every passing day is a reminder that our journey is moving forward. We celebrate birthdays, mark new weeks, and make long-term plans, yet every sunrise also brings us one day closer to meeting Allah. This reality should inspire us to make the best use of the time we have.
Allah describes this worldly life as temporary enjoyment compared to the eternal rewards awaiting the righteous. The believer therefore lives with balance. They work hard, care for their family, and contribute positively to society, but they never allow worldly success to become more important than obedience to Allah.
When we remember that life is a journey, our perspective changes. We become more patient during hardship because we know every trial has an end. We become more grateful during times of ease because we recognise every blessing comes from Allah. We become quicker to forgive because we know that holding grudges only burdens our hearts.
This understanding also encourages us to invest in deeds that continue to benefit us after death. Every prayer performed sincerely, every page of the Qur’an recited, every act of charity, every beneficial piece of knowledge shared, and every child raised upon righteousness becomes a provision for the eternal journey ahead.
As you go through this week, ask yourself whether your daily choices are bringing you closer to Allah. Are your actions preparing you for the life that never ends? Are you investing as much effort in your Hereafter as you are in your worldly ambitions?
The wise believer never loses sight of the destination. They travel through this world with purpose, carrying faith, sincerity, and righteous deeds as their provisions. When the journey finally comes to an end, they hope to hear the words every Muslim longs for: that Allah is pleased with them and has admitted them into His everlasting mercy.
