A DAY TO WRITE YOUR DU’A LIST: WHAT SHOULD YOU ASK ALLAH ON ARAFAH?

pray

As the Day of Arafah arrives, many Muslims prepare for fasting, increase their remembrance of Allah and plan to spend more time in worship. But there is something many people overlook: preparing a du’a list.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The best supplication is the supplication of the Day of Arafah.”

This teaches us that the Day of Arafah is not only about staying hungry through fasting; it is also about turning sincerely to Allah with our needs, hopes, fears and dreams.

Many people enter the day with good intentions but later realize they forgot to ask for things that deeply matter to them. Hours pass quickly. Emotions rise. Distractions come. Before long, the day is over.

Writing a du’a list can help a person approach the day with focus and purpose.

A believer should understand that no request is too small or too big for Allah. Sometimes people only ask for major matters while forgetting that Allah controls every aspect of life. We can ask Him for guidance, forgiveness, provision, success and even ease in everyday struggles.

A good du’a list may begin with matters related to the Hereafter because eternal success is greater than temporary worldly gain.

Some of the most important things to ask Allah for include:

* Forgiveness for all sins, whether public or private
* Entry into Jannah without accountability
* Protection from the punishment of the grave
* Protection from the Hellfire
* Steadfastness upon Islam
* A good ending in life and death
* Sincerity in worship

Then a believer can include personal matters:

* Halal provision and financial ease
* Beneficial knowledge
* Success in studies or work
* Righteous spouses and children
* Good health and protection from harm
* Relief from debts and difficulties
* Peace of mind and contentment

Family should also occupy a major place in our supplications. Parents, spouses, children and relatives need our du’as.

Allah mentions in the Qur’an the beautiful supplication:

“Our Lord, grant us from among our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.”

The Ummah should also not be forgotten. Across the world, many Muslims face hardship, poverty, displacement and oppression. A believer’s heart should carry concern beyond personal needs.

Pray for:

* Muslims facing difficulties
* Pilgrims performing Hajj
* Communities suffering from war and hardship
* Guidance for the youth
* Unity and strength for the Ummah

The Day of Arafah is also a day for honest conversation with Allah. Speak to Him with humility. Tell Him your fears. Tell Him what worries you. Tell Him what you hope for. Allah already knows what is in the heart, but du’a is an act of worship and dependence.

Many people spend more time preparing shopping lists, travel plans and schedules than they spend preparing for one of the greatest days of the year. Yet the Day of Arafah can change a person’s life.

Tomorrow, before the day begins, take a few minutes and write your du’a list. Raise your hands often. Ask with certainty. Ask repeatedly. Ask with hope.

The doors of mercy are wide open, and perhaps one sincere du’a may become the reason for success in this world and in the Hereafter.

May Allah accept every sincere supplication and grant us what is good for our deen, our dunya and our akhirah. Ameen.
