SPIRITUAL DIGEST: RAMADAN DAY 24 (A DU’A FROM SURAH IBRAHIM)
The spiritual digest for Ramadan day 24 is a supplication from Surah Ibrahim (14:41).
This verse is part of the supplication made by Prophet Ibrahim (AS). Surah Ibrahim is named after him because it contains some of his profound prayers and reflections on faith.
رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلْحِسَابُ
Rabbanaa ighfir lii waliwaalidayya walilmu’miniina yawma yaquumul hisaab
Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established. Surah Ibrahim (14:41)
In this verse, Ibrahim (AS) asks Allah for three things:
-
Forgiveness for himself – A sign of humility, even though he was a prophet.
-
Forgiveness for his parents – A reminder of the duty to honor and pray for one’s parents.
-
Forgiveness for all believers – Showing his concern for the entire Ummah, beyond his own family.
The verse ends by mentioning “Yawma yaquumul hisaab” (the Day the account is established) – referring to the Day of Judgment when everyone will stand before Allah for accountability.
Lessons from the Verse
-
The Importance of Seeking Forgiveness – Even prophets, who were close to Allah, sought forgiveness. It reminds us to be humble and continuously ask for Allah’s mercy.
-
Honoring Parents through Duas – Islam teaches us to make dua for our parents, whether they are alive or deceased.
-
Caring for the Ummah – Ibrahim (AS) did not only pray for himself and his family but extended his prayer to all believers, teaching us to think beyond ourselves.
-
Reminder of the Hereafter – The mention of “the Day the account is established” reminds us of our ultimate goal and accountability before Allah.
This verse is often recited in personal duas, especially when praying for one’s parents and the Ummah.
It’s a powerful supplication that reflects love, responsibility, and the fear of the Hereafter.
