TRADITIONALISTS AND MUSLIMS CLASH AT ANNUAL ORO FESTIVAL IN OGUN STATE

A district court in Ota, in the Ado Odo Ota local government area in Ogun state, on Thursday sentenced five people to traditional detention for allegedly assaulting several Muslims in Idiroko.
Traditionalists who had enforced a curfew over their Oro celebration fought with Muslim believers who were observing their evening prayer on Tuesday, resulting in violence.
It was also reported that Oro supporters attacked an Islamic cleric, Bola Wasiu, and severed his head with a machete.
The Respondent has learned that three of the suspected attackers were apprehended by Muslims during the brawl and handed over to local police.
In connection with the attacks, police arraigned five individuals before Magistrate A. O. Adeyemi on Thursday.
The traditionalists were granted bail by the court, but they were unable to meet their bail conditions.
