SULTANATE REFORM: THERE’S MISCONCEPTION BY ULAMAS — NORTHERN YOUTH FORUM
The Coalition of Northern Youth Imams Forum has completely denounced Ulamas and Imams who make comments on matters that jeopardize Nigeria’s unity, peace, and harmony, claiming that certain Ulamas have misrepresented the impact of the Sokoto State law reform on the Sultanate Council.
This was disclosed by the chairman of the event, Sheikh Abdulqadir Imam Funtua, during a two-day workshop held in Kaduna to sensitise the Imams on the need to verify any information regarding the Sultanate before making deliberations.
The chairman of the event, Abdulqadir Imam Funtua, said it was part of the teachings of Islam to refrain from spreading rumours, adjudicating issues, or making conclusions before verifying.
According to him, the Sokoto State government, to his understanding, was not in any way against the Sultanate Council.
“The state government has been supportive of the Sultanate; after all, the Sultan is the leader of every Muslim,” he mentioned.
In their resolutions and recommendations after the two-day workshop, which were signed and issued in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, the Forum’s national secretary, Imam Mubarak Aliyu, stated, “Honesty of information dissemination in Islam,” using the misconception of some Ulamas on Sokoto State reform laws on the Sultanate Council as an example. The workshop ended on Sunday.
The Northern Youth Imams Forum conference discussed the importance of verifying any information before making comments during religious preaching.
The forum, after the conference, made resolutions and recommendations that included the position of the forum on the misconception of some Ulama about Sokoto State law reforms on the Sultanate Council.
They clarified that the issue is not about dethroning the Sultan, as some people alleged, and noted that the Sokoto State Government has made a clear statement about the issue.
They also rejected in totality and condemned Imams and Ulama who comment on issues that disrupt the unity, peace, and harmony of the country.
The Northern Youth Imams Forum urged Imams and Ulama to fear Allah and speak the truth after verifying any matter to ensure peace reigns in the country.
