The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has expressed optimism that 2020 Hajj would take place.
The Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Zikrullah Olakunle Hassan made this known during an interview with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria.
Alhaji Hassan disclosed that there are indicators from the Saudi Ministry of Health, projecting that the Kingdom will hopefully witness a decline in cases of the Coronavirus from April 21st and possible eradication of the disease by May 2020.
“This explains why the NAHCON has not stopped preparations towards 2020 Hajj,” he said.
The NAHCON chair, however, encouraged prospective pilgrims to pay Hajj fare deposits as they might be a reduction in the number of pilgrims as part of the strategy towards managing the COVID-19 pandemic. Adding that “Should this happen, slots will be offered to intending pilgrims on first come, first served formula.”
He also encouraged prospective pilgrims to make the necessary physical, mental and spiritual preparations towards making the Hajj.
Despite the commission’s optimism, Alhaji Hassan confirmed that there are arrangements to ensure no monetary loss in case the Hajj fails to hold, stating that the arrangements with the Saudi Arabian service providers are legally backed.
