Following the commencement of preparations for the 1448AH/2027 Hajj by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), several State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies and Commissions have begun collecting initial deposits from intending pilgrims in line with the Commission’s directive.

NAHCON, in a circular dated 15 June 2026 titled “Commencement of Preparations for the 1448AH/2027 Hajj Season,” directed all State Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies and Commissions, as well as licensed Private Tour Operators, to immediately commence preparatory activities in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

The Commission fixed the minimum initial deposit at ₦4 million for each intending pilgrim, pending the announcement of the final Hajj fare after consultations with stakeholders and the conclusion of negotiations with service providers in Saudi Arabia.

NAHCON also announced 26 September 2026 as the deadline for the collection of Hajj fare deposits by all State Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies and Commissions, as well as licensed Private Tour Operators, to ensure adequate planning and timely contractual arrangements for the pilgrimage.

In compliance with the directive, a number of states have already commenced the collection of deposits, while others are intensifying preparations in line with the approved timetable for the 2027 Hajj exercise.

The Commission advised intending pilgrims to make payments only through their respective State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards, Agencies or Commissions, or licensed Private Tour Operators where applicable. Pilgrims were also urged to obtain official receipts for every payment as proof of transaction.

According to NAHCON, the early commencement of deposit collection will facilitate timely planning for critical Hajj services, including accommodation, transportation, feeding, healthcare and other operational logistics. The Commission added that early registration by intending pilgrims would further enhance the smooth coordination of the 2027 Hajj exercise.

NAHCON reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with State Pilgrims Welfare Boards, licensed Tour Operators and other stakeholders to deliver a seamless, efficient and successful 1448AH/2027 Hajj operation. It also urged states yet to commence the exercise to expedite preparations in line with the approved Hajj timetable.
