COURAGE DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE NOT AFRAID

YOU CAN FEEL AFRAID AND STILL DO WHAT IS RIGHT

Many young people believe that being courageous means never feeling afraid.

They think a brave person must always appear strong, confident and fearless.

But that is not what courage means.

Courage is not necessarily the absence of fear. It can mean doing what is right despite the fear you feel.

The Seerah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ contains many moments that teach us about courage, patience and reliance upon Allah.

During the migration from Makkah to Madinah, the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه took shelter in a cave while their pursuers searched for them.

The Qur’an describes this moment in Surah At-Tawbah.

Allah says:”Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us.” — Qur’an 9:40

These were the words of the Prophet ﷺ to his companion during that difficult situation.

The verse reminds believers that fear and difficulty do not mean Allah has abandoned them.

The Prophet ﷺ continued his mission despite the opposition, hardship and danger he encountered.

His life teaches young Muslims that courage is not about pretending that difficulties do not exist. It is about facing them with faith, patience and the determination to do what is right.

WHAT DOES COURAGE LOOK LIKE FOR YOUNG MUSLIMS TODAY?

1. Having the courage to pray.

You may feel uncomfortable praying around people who do not understand your religion. Nevertheless, you can fulfil your obligations respectfully and confidently.

2. Having the courage to say no.

When friends invite you to participate in something haram, you can refuse without insulting them.

3. Having the courage to admit your mistakes.

Accepting responsibility and seeking forgiveness require humility and strength.

4. Having the courage to ask for help.

You do not have to solve every problem alone. Seeking advice from trustworthy people is a sign of responsibility, not weakness.

5. Having the courage to start again.

Perhaps you have struggled with your salah, abandoned a beneficial habit or made mistakes you regret.

Do not allow your past to convince you that improvement is impossible. Repent sincerely and take steps toward a better future.

REMEMBER THIS

You can feel nervous and still speak the truth.

You can feel pressure and still protect your values.

You can experience hardship and still place your trust in Allah.

Courage does not mean you never struggle. It means you do not allow fear to make every decision for you.

HEART CHECK

Allah does not promise that a believer will never experience fear or hardship. But He teaches us to turn to Him and remain steadfast.

The next time you feel afraid to do what is right, remember that you can seek Allah’s help and take that step with faith.

May Allah grant us courage, patience and steadfastness. Ameen.
