THE NIGHT ALI (RA) SLEPT IN THE PROPHET’S (SAW)BED

COURAGE MEANS STANDING FIRM WHEN IT IS DIFFICULT

Imagine being asked to sleep in someone’s bed when you know that the person’s enemies are looking for him and may harm whoever they find.

Would you have the courage to do it?

This is part of the remarkable story of Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA)during the Hijrah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah.

The leaders of Quraysh had plotted against the Prophet (SAW) and planned to kill him. Allah informed His Messenger of their plot and permitted him to leave Makkah.

During this dangerous moment, Ali (RA) remained behind and slept in the Prophet’s (SAW) bed.

He did so while the Prophet ﷺ departed, by Allah’s permission. Ali (RA) also remained to return the trusts that people had left with the Prophet (SAW).

Think about that responsibility.

Ali رضي الله عنه was still a young man, yet he was entrusted with an important task during a dangerous period.

His actions remind us that courage is not always about fighting or displaying physical strength. Sometimes, courage means remaining committed to what is right when doing so requires sacrifice.

WHAT CAN YOUNG MUSLIMS LEARN?

1. You are never too young to be responsible.

Ali رضي الله عنه demonstrated that young people can carry important responsibilities. Do not use your age as an excuse to avoid every duty.

2. Courage is more than physical strength.

It takes courage to defend someone being bullied, refuse to participate in wrongdoing, or stand by your Islamic values when your friends disagree.

3. Trustworthiness matters.

Ali رضي الله عنه remained behind to return the people’s belongings. Even in a difficult situation, fulfilling trusts was important.

4. Trust Allah while taking the necessary steps.

The Hijrah teaches Muslims to combine reliance upon Allah with purposeful action.

A QUESTION FOR TODAY’S YOUTH

Would you stand up for what is right when doing so might make you unpopular?

Would you defend someone who is being mocked when everyone else is laughing?

Would you refuse to join your friends in something haram, even if they called you boring?

These situations may not be as dangerous as the circumstances surrounding the Hijrah, but they still require courage and conviction.

HEART CHECK

Ali (RA)showed courage and responsibility during one of the most important moments in Islamic history.

You do not need to be famous or powerful to make a meaningful difference. Sometimes, one act of courage and trustworthiness is enough to show the strength of your character.

May Allah make us courageous, trustworthy and steadfast upon the truth. Ameen.
