WHAT WOULD THE PROPHET (SAW) WANT TODAY’S YOUTH TO BECOME?

YOUR YOUTH IS AN OPPORTUNITY, NOT SOMETHING TO WASTE

If you could ask yourself one important question today, let it be this:

*What kind of Muslim am I becoming?*

Are you becoming someone who remembers Allah regularly? Someone who treats people kindly? Someone who values knowledge, fulfils responsibilities and tries to improve when mistakes happen?

Or are you allowing your days to pass without thinking about your purpose?

The life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ provides a beautiful example for Muslims of every generation.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

“There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.” — Qur’an 33:21

The Prophet ﷺ was sent as a mercy to the worlds. His teachings guide Muslims in worship, character, relationships, responsibilities and daily life.

Although we cannot claim to know every specific thing the Prophet ﷺ would say about today’s social media, modern friendships or contemporary youth culture, we can look to his authentic teachings for guidance.

FIVE QUALITIES EVERY YOUNG MUSLIM SHOULD DEVELOP

1. A strong relationship with Allah

Make your salah a priority. Read the Qur’an, make du’a and seek forgiveness when you fall short.

You don’t need to become perfect overnight. Begin with sincere, consistent steps toward Allah.

2. Excellent character

The Prophet ﷺ taught the importance of good character. Be truthful, honour your promises, respect others and avoid harming people with your words.

Your religious knowledge should be reflected in your behaviour.

3. A love of learning

Learn your religion from reliable sources. Ask questions when you don’t understand something, and put beneficial knowledge into practice.

Your youth is a valuable time to develop habits that can benefit you throughout your life.

4. Courage to do what is right

You may experience pressure to participate in things that contradict your beliefs. Learn to stand firm without becoming arrogant or disrespectful.

Obeying Allah matters more than winning everyone’s approval.

5. Compassion for others

Be kind to your parents, siblings, classmates, colleagues and neighbours.

Don’t use your knowledge to humiliate people. Use it to improve yourself and benefit others.

DON’T WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE OLDER

Some young Muslims think that serious religious practice belongs to adulthood.

They tell themselves:

“I will start praying consistently when I am older.”

“I will stop this bad habit later.”

“I will learn the Qur’an when I have more time.”

But none of us is promised a particular number of years.

Start today.

If your salah is inconsistent, work toward establishing it.

If you have neglected the Qur’an, begin reading it again.

If you have hurt someone, seek forgiveness and make amends where appropriate.

If you have fallen into sin, repent sincerely and take practical steps to avoid returning to it.

Allah’s mercy is vast, and the door of sincere repentance remains open.

YOUR CHALLENGE THIS WEEK

Choose one area of your life that needs improvement.

Perhaps it is your salah, your relationship with your parents, your use of social media or your treatment of others.

Make a sincere intention to improve that area for the sake of Allah.

Then take one practical step every day.

Small, consistent actions can help you develop a stronger relationship with Allah.

HEART CHECK

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ left the Muslim Ummah with guidance that continues to benefit believers today.

You cannot change the world in one day, and you do not have to become perfect before you begin.

But you can make a sincere effort to become a better Muslim today than you were yesterday.

Your youth is a trust from Allah. Use it to build your relationship with Him, strengthen your character and benefit the people around you.

May Allah guide our young Muslims, protect them from harmful influences and make them among those who live by the Qur’an and the Sunnah. Ameen.
