DON’T LET SOCIAL MEDIA STEAL YOUR TIME

“Let me just check one thing.”

You open your phone.

One video becomes five.

Five becomes twenty.

You scroll through Instagram.

Then TikTok.

Then WhatsApp.

Then YouTube.

Before you realise it, an hour—or even more—has disappeared.

Social media can be useful, entertaining and even educational.

But when it begins taking control of your time, it becomes a problem.

Allah says: “By time! Surely humanity is in grave loss, except those who have faith, do good, and urge each other to the truth and patience.”**
Qur’an 103:1–3

TIME IS SOMETHING YOU CANNOT GET BACK

Money can be earned again.

A phone can be replaced.

A broken item can sometimes be repaired.

But yesterday cannot be recovered.

Every day you spend is one day less from your life.

That’s why your time is valuable.

ASK YOURSELF WHAT YOU ARE CONSUMING

What are you watching every day?

What are you listening to?

What are you constantly thinking about?

What accounts are influencing you?

What conversations are filling your mind?

Not everything that gets your attention deserves your time.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO DELETE SOCIAL MEDIA

The solution isn’t necessarily to disappear from the internet.

You can use social media for good.

Learn something.

Share beneficial reminders.

Connect with family.

Promote your business.

Learn a skill.

Spread something positive.

But you also need boundaries.

Set limits.

Take breaks.

Don’t scroll during salah.

Don’t stay awake for hours because you can’t put your phone down.

Don’t allow your phone to become the first thing you reach for every morning and the last thing you look at every night.

USE YOUR TIME FOR SOMETHING THAT WILL REMAIN

Read Qur’an.

Learn a skill.

Exercise.

Study.

Help your family.

Spend meaningful time with friends.

Make dhikr.

Rest properly.

Work towards your goals.

Your future self will benefit from how you use your time today.

HEART CHECK

Don’t let endless scrolling consume hours that you could have used to build your dunya and akhirah. Your time is passing.

Use it wisely.
