THE PROPHET (SAW) AND HONEST BUSINESS: LESSONS FOR YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS

Long before becoming the Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ worked in business.

He was known for his honesty and trustworthiness, qualities that made people comfortable dealing with him.

His example gives young Muslims an important lesson:

Making money is not the only goal. How you make it matters too.

Today, many young people are interested in business.

Some sell clothes.

Some sell food.

Others offer graphic design, digital marketing, photography, tutoring, fashion or other services.

Islam does not teach us to be ashamed of earning halal income.

Instead, Muslims are encouraged to earn lawfully and deal with people honestly.

WHAT CAN YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS LEARN?

1. Don’t lie about your products.

If something has a defect, don’t hide it from the customer.

2. Don’t make false promises.

If you cannot deliver an order by Friday, don’t promise Friday simply to get the customer’s money.

3. Be fair with your customers.

Treat people properly whether their order is large or small.

4. Keep your agreements.

Your word should mean something.

5. Don’t sacrifice halal income for quick money.

A business that grows slowly through honesty is different from making money through deception.

BUSINESS IS ALSO ABOUT CHARACTER

A customer may forget what they bought from you.

But they may remember how you treated them.

They may remember that you were honest.

They may remember that you admitted your mistake.

They may remember that you returned their money when something went wrong.

That is how trust is built.

FOR THE YOUNG MUSLIM ENTREPRENEUR

Don’t measure your success only by how much money you make.

Ask yourself:

Is my income halal?

Am I honest with customers?

Do I keep my promises?

Would I be comfortable explaining my business practices before Allah?

HEART CHECK

The Prophet (SAW) showed that business and good character can go together.

So if you are building a business, build more than a brand.

Build trust. Build honesty. Build something halal. Build something you can be proud of before Allah.
