MURIC COMMENDS NSCIA’S APPOINTMENT OF ABBAS JIMOH AS SPOKESPERSON

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has applauded the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) for appointing veteran journalist Abbas Jimoh as its new spokesperson, describing the decision as timely and well deserved.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, MURIC’s Founder and Executive Director, Ishaq Akintola, praised the umbrella Islamic body for what he called a transparent, objective and inclusive selection process.

According to him, the appointment reflects the NSCIA’s commitment to placing competence and experience above every other consideration.

Professor Akintola noted that Abbas Jimoh’s long-standing career in journalism has equipped him with the knowledge and expertise needed to effectively manage the council’s public communication and media relations.

He described the new spokesperson as “a square peg in a square hole,” adding that his wealth of experience in the media industry would enable him to navigate the responsibilities of the office with professionalism and confidence.

“Mr. Abbas Jimoh is a veteran journalist who knows the straights and bends of the Fourth Estate of the Realm. We have no scintilla of doubt that he has the required experience to weather any storm in the pen profession. He knows his onions,” the statement read.

MURIC further commended the leadership of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs for embracing inclusivity, transparency and objectivity in the process that led to the appointment.

The organization expressed confidence that the council had made the right choice and wished the new spokesperson success in his new role.

Congratulating Abbas Jimoh, Professor Akintola urged him to discharge his responsibilities with diligence, courage and the highest standards of professionalism.

The appointment has been welcomed by MURIC as a positive development for the nation’s foremost Islamic body, with the group expressing optimism that Jimoh’s media experience will strengthen the council’s public engagement and communication efforts.
