RAMADAN DAY 13 : GAINING KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge is the foundation of conscious worship.
Worship without knowledge can easily become routine movement without depth. It is knowledge that gives ibadah meaning, direction, and protection from exaggeration or negligence. A Muslim does not seek knowledge merely to accumulate information, but to walk the straight path with clarity to know how to worship and why.
Allah says:
“Say, ‘Are those who know equal to those who do not know?’”
Surah Az-Zumar 39:9
This rhetorical question establishes a principle: knowledge elevates. It distinguishes. It refines faith.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever Allah intends good for, He grants him understanding of the religion.”
Sahih al-Bukhari 71; Sahih Muslim 1037
Understanding (fiqh) is a sign of divine favor. It protects a believer from innovation, from cultural distortions, and from emotional extremes in religion.
Ramadan is not only a month of increased worship; it is also a month of revelation. The Qur’an was sent down in this blessed month. That alone makes it a season of learning.
Knowledge is a path and protection.
Where knowledge exists, there is confidence in prayer. There is calmness in fasting. There is clarity in financial dealings, family matters, and daily decisions. Ignorance, on the other hand, produces doubt, confusion, and sometimes misplaced zeal.
When a believer learns:
• He fasts correctly, knowing its rulings and conditions.
• She prays with khushu‘, understanding what is being recited.
• Charity is given with awareness of its virtues and guidelines.
• Mistakes are corrected based on evidence, not assumption.
Even small, consistent learning in Ramadan can transform worship. A short daily tafsir session. Listening to a reliable scholar. Studying the meanings of commonly recited surahs. Reviewing the fiqh of fasting. These efforts compound.
Knowledge disciplines emotions. It balances fear and hope. It anchors sincerity. It guards against being misled.
Ramadan softens the heart. Knowledge directs that softness toward sound practice.
Let this month not only increase your actions, but also deepen your understanding. Because when knowledge and worship combine, devotion becomes stable and lasting.
May Allah grant us beneficial knowledge, sincere action, and understanding that brings us closer to Him.
