When people hear the word sabr, they often think it simply means waiting.
Waiting for your dua.
Waiting for an opportunity.
Waiting for things to get better.
But sabr is much deeper than sitting still and hoping.
SABR MEANS STAYING FIRM
Sabr means remaining patient and steadfast while doing what is right.
Sometimes sabr means continuing to pray when you are tired.
Sometimes it means refusing a haram opportunity even when you desperately want what it offers.
Sometimes it means controlling your anger.
Sometimes it means continuing to work towards a goal after experiencing disappointment.
Sometimes it means trusting Allah while you wait.
Sabr is not weakness.
It is strength under control.
PATIENCE DOES NOT MEAN DOING NOTHING
Imagine someone who wants to pass an examination.
They make dua:
“Ya Allah, let me pass.”
But they never study.
That is not proper tawakkul.
You make dua andyou study.
You trust Allah and you take the available means.
You ask Allah for a job and you apply.
You ask Allah for healing and you seek appropriate care.
You ask Allah for success and you put in effort.
THE PROPHETS TAUGHT US SABR
The Qur’an repeatedly shows us people who faced extremely difficult situations but remained connected to Allah.
Prophet Ayyub عليه السلام endured a long trial.
Prophet Ya’qub عليه السلام experienced deep grief.
Prophet Yusuf عليه السلام endured betrayal, separation and hardship.
Their stories remind us that a difficult season does not mean Allah has abandoned you.
YOUR WAITING IS NOT WASTED
You may be waiting for something right now.
A job.
Marriage.
A child.
Healing.
A breakthrough.
A change in your circumstances.
Don’t let the waiting make you forget the One you are waiting with.
Use the waiting period to grow.
Pray.
Learn.
Work.
Make dua.
Improve yourself.
And trust Allah’s timing.
Allah says:
> “Indeed, Allah is with the patient.”
> (Qur’an 8:46)
Sabr is not simply waiting for life to change.
Sabr is choosing to remain faithful to Allah while you wait.
