What happens when young people have something to say?
Do we listen to them?
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ interacted with young people, taught them, answered their questions and gave them opportunities to learn and contribute.
He did not treat youth as though their thoughts and questions were worthless simply because they were young.
This is something today’s young Muslims need to remember:
Your questions matter.
If you don’t understand something about Islam, ask.
If you are struggling with a matter, seek guidance.
If you have an idea that could benefit people, develop it.
Don’t be afraid to learn.
At the same time, having questions does not mean we should accept every answer we find online. Seek knowledge from trustworthy and qualified sources.
LESSONS FOR YOUTH
1. Ask sincere questions.
Questions can lead to understanding when they are asked with humility and a desire for truth.
2. Don’t be afraid to learn from older people.
Experience matters, and there is wisdom in seeking guidance.
3. Listen as well as speak.
Being heard is important, but learning to listen is also part of maturity.
4. Use your voice responsibly.
Having a platform does not mean everything should be said or posted.
FOR PARENTS AND TEACHERS
Young people often need someone who will listen without immediately judging them.
A young Muslim who feels safe asking questions is more likely to seek guidance when facing difficult situations.
HEART CHECK
The youth are not simply the future of the Ummah. They are part of the Ummah right now. Your voice matters. Your questions matter. Your growth matters. Use your youth to learn, ask, serve and grow closer to Allah.
