DON’T TRADE YOUR AKHIRAH FOR A TEMPORARY RELATIONSHIP

For many young people, relationships can feel like one of the most important parts of life. The attention, affection and feeling of being loved can be exciting, especially when someone makes you feel understood and valued.

But as Muslims, we are taught to look beyond the feelings of today and consider where our choices are taking us.

A relationship may feel good in the moment, but if it constantly pulls you away from Allah, causes you to cross Islamic boundaries, or makes you neglect your responsibilities to your deen, it is worth asking yourself: “Is this relationship worth what I am sacrificing?”

Allah says: “And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect.”
— Qur’an 65:2–3

Sometimes, young people remain in relationships that are not good for them because they are afraid of being alone. They may think, “What if I never find someone else?”

But trusting Allah means believing that what you leave for His sake is never truly lost.

You do not need to sacrifice your salah for someone.

You do not need to compromise your modesty for someone’s attention.

You do not need to disobey Allah to prove that you love someone.

If marriage is genuinely the intention, then love should be guided towards what is halal, with seriousness, respect and appropriate involvement of families. Love should not become an excuse for continuously crossing the boundaries Allah has set.

Sometimes, choosing Allah means having the courage to step away from something your heart is attached to.

That can be difficult.

But protecting your iman is more important than protecting a relationship that is taking you away from your Creator.

Your heart deserves love, but it also deserves protection.

Never exchange something eternal for something temporary.

HEART CHECK

People may come and go, relationships may change and feelings may fade, but your relationship with Allah is what ultimately matters. So before giving someone your heart, ask yourself:

“Is this bringing me closer to Allah or further away from Him?” Choose Allah first, and trust Him with the rest.
