WHEN SALAH BECOMES A BURDEN: HOW DO WE FIND THE JOY AGAIN?

For some young Muslims, salah can slowly become a routine they struggle to maintain.

At first, they pray consistently.

Then life becomes busy.

One prayer is missed.

Then another.

Eventually, salah begins to feel like a burden instead of a connection with Allah.

But what if we changed the way we looked at salah?

Salah is not simply another task on your daily schedule.

It is your opportunity to stand before your Creator.

Think about how many times you become overwhelmed, worried or confused and don’t know who to talk to.

Allah is always there.

He hears you.

He knows what is in your heart.

And five times every day, you are given an opportunity to turn back to Him.

Allah says: “Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing.”— Qur’an 29:45

If your salah feels empty, don’t simply abandon it.

Work on it.

Slow down.

Learn the meanings of what you recite.

Put your phone away.

Make wudu with intention.

Remind yourself that you are standing before Allah.

And don’t wait until you feel motivated before you pray.

Sometimes consistency comes before the feeling.

There may be days when your salah feels peaceful and days when your mind wanders. Keep going.

HEART CHECK

Don’t abandon the prayer because you are struggling. Keep praying until your heart finds its way back.
