WHY MUSLIMS SHOULD SEND MORE SALAWAT ON FRIDAY
Among the greatest acts of worship on Friday is sending abundant salawat upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is a simple act that requires no wealth, no special place, and only a few moments of our time, yet its rewards are immense.
Sadly, while many Muslims remember to attend Jumu’ah, recite the Qur’an, and prepare for the prayer, they often overlook one of the most recommended deeds of this blessed day—sending blessings upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
Allah Himself commands the believers in the Qur’an:
“Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels ask Him to do so. O you who have believed, ask Allah to confer blessing upon him and ask Allah to grant him peace.”
This command reminds us that sending salawat is not merely a recommendation; it is an act of obedience to Allah and an expression of love for His Messenger ﷺ.
WHY FRIDAY IS SPECIAL
The Prophet ﷺ specifically encouraged Muslims to increase their salawat on Fridays because it is the best day of the week. Authentic narrations mention that our salawat are presented to the Prophet ﷺ, making Friday an ideal time to remember him and renew our connection to his Sunnah.
Rather than limiting this act to a few moments before Jumu’ah, we should make it a habit throughout the day.
While driving to work.
While walking.
While waiting in a queue.
Before and after Jumu’ah.
Before going to sleep.
Every moment spent in salawat is an investment in our Hereafter.
THE BENEFITS OF SENDING SALAWAT
The rewards of sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ are numerous.
For every salawat a believer sends, Allah sends multiple blessings upon that person.
It becomes a means of earning Allah’s mercy.
It helps erase sins.
It raises one’s rank.
It brings peace and tranquillity to the heart.
It strengthens love for the Prophet ﷺ and encourages us to follow his example in our daily lives.
No believer ever loses by increasing in salawat.
HOW TO SEND SALAWAT
There are several authentic forms of salawat. One of the most common is:
Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala aali Muhammad kama sallaita ‘ala Ibrahima wa ‘ala aali Ibrahim, innaka Hamidun Majid. Allahumma barik ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala aali Muhammad kama barakta ‘ala Ibrahima wa ‘ala aali Ibrahim, innaka Hamidun Majid.
Even the shorter form,
Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad,
is a blessed remembrance that can be repeated frequently throughout the day.
A HABIT THAT SHOULD NOT END WITH FRIDAY
Although Friday is the best day to increase salawat, this beautiful act of worship should not be limited to one day each week.
A believer who regularly remembers the Prophet ﷺ through salawat is constantly renewing love for the one who conveyed Islam to humanity. That love should naturally inspire us to follow his character, uphold his Sunnah, and embody the mercy and compassion that defined his life.
MAKE TODAY COUNT
As this blessed Friday passes, take every opportunity to send more salawat upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Whether you are at home, in the office, on the road, or in the mosque, let your tongue remain moist with this noble remembrance.
It costs nothing, takes only a few seconds, and may become one of the deeds that weighs heavily on your scale of good deeds on the Day of Judgment.
May Allah shower His peace and blessings upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, make us among those who love and follow him sincerely, and accept our salawat and all our acts of worship. Ameen.
