WHO WERE THE FIRST TEN PEOPLE PROMISED JANNAH?

Among the most honoured names in Islamic history are the Ashara Mubashshara   the ten noble companions who were given the glad tidings of Jannah during their lifetimes. Their stories show courage, sacrifice, sincerity, and unshakable devotion to the Prophet ﷺ. Learning about them isn’t just history; it is a reminder of what true faith looks like when lived with conviction.

These ten companions stood with the Prophet ﷺ through difficulty and ease. They defended Islam in its early, fragile days. They gave their wealth, time, strength, and hearts to this deen. And because of their sincerity, Allah honoured them with a promise that many of us pray for daily: the promise of paradise.

Here are the ten blessed ones:

1. Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (RA)
The closest friend of the Prophet ﷺ and the first adult man to accept Islam. His loyalty was unmatched. He supported the Prophet ﷺ with his wealth, his wisdom, and his entire being. His faith was so pure that the Prophet ﷺ said it outweighed the iman of the entire Ummah.

2. Umar ibn Al-Khattab (RA)
Strong, fearless, and just. When Umar embraced Islam, the Muslims gained strength and confidence. As Caliph, he expanded the Muslim world, established justice, and lived with remarkable humility. His leadership still inspires the world today.

3. Uthman ibn Affan (RA)
Gentle in nature, generous in heart. He funded the expansion of the Prophet’s mosque and equipped the army at times when no one else could. His modesty was so profound that even the angels felt shy in his presence.

4. Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA)
The cousin of the Prophet ﷺ, raised in his household, known for his bravery and deep knowledge. He was among the first to accept Islam, fought in key battles, and served the Ummah with unwavering devotion.

5. Talhah ibn Ubaydullah (RA)
A hero of Uhud. He shielded the Prophet ﷺ with his own body and sustained dozens of wounds. His courage saved the Muslim community during one of its most critical moments.

6. Zubayr ibn Al-Awwam (RA)
The Prophet’s close companion and one of the earliest Muslims. He was known for his bravery and loyalty, earning the title “Hawariyy Rasulillah” — the disciple and defender of the Messenger.

7. Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf (RA)
A businessman of extraordinary generosity. He supported the community with wealth that grew through honest work and sincere effort. He was known for feeding the poor, sponsoring the needy, and giving for the sake of Allah without hesitation.

8. Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas (RA)
The first to shoot an arrow for Islam and one of the Prophet’s closest relatives. His dua was famously accepted by Allah, and he led the Muslim army to a historic victory in Persia.

9. Sa’id ibn Zaid (RA)
A man of noble character, married to the daughter of Umar (RA), and known for his steadfastness. His family accepted Islam even before the call became public. His life was marked by strength, integrity, and devotion.

10. Abu Ubaydah ibn Al-Jarrah (RA)
A man described by the Prophet ﷺ as “the trustworthy one of this Ummah.” He was calm, wise, disciplined, and humble. His leadership during battles and tough moments showed the beauty of his character.

These ten companions were promised Jannah not because they were perfect, but because they were sincere. They sacrificed, struggled, repented, grew, and lived for Allah. Their lives show what it means to combine faith with action and loyalty with love.

Remembering them is a reminder of what we are capable of when we walk with sincerity. Their stories nudge the heart toward courage, purpose, and devotion. A believer’s journey becomes richer when these names become not just history to admire, but examples to follow.
