BEFORE THE SUN SETS THIS FRIDAY: 7 THINGS EVERY MUSLIM SHOULD DO

Introduction

Friday is a gift from Allah. Every Jumu’ah is an opportunity to begin again, seek forgiveness, and earn rewards that may outweigh the mistakes of an entire week. Yet many Muslims allow this blessed day to pass without taking advantage of its unique virtues.

By the time the sun sets on Friday, another precious opportunity has gone. None of us knows whether we will witness another Jumu’ah.

As this blessed day draws to a close, here are seven meaningful acts every Muslim should strive to complete.

1. Make Sincere Tawbah

No one goes through an entire week without making mistakes. Some sins are visible, while others remain hidden between us and Allah.

Friday is an excellent time to return to Allah with a sincere heart.

Ask Him to forgive your shortcomings.

Seek forgiveness for the prayers you delayed, the words you regret, and the opportunities for good that you missed.

Allah loves those who constantly repent.

Never allow Shaytan to convince you that your sins are too great for Allah’s mercy.

2. Make Plenty of Du’a Before Maghrib

Among the greatest blessings of Friday is the special hour during which Allah accepts the supplications of His servants.

Many scholars believe this blessed time falls during the final hour before Maghrib.

Do not spend those moments scrolling through social media or watching television.

Raise your hands.

Pray for your parents.

Pray for your children.

Pray for your marriage.

Pray for your business.

Pray for those suffering around the world.

Pray for Jannah.

And most importantly, pray for steadfastness upon Islam until your final breath.

3. Increase Salawat Upon the Prophet ﷺ

The Prophet ﷺ encouraged believers to increase salutations upon him on Fridays.

Spend a few minutes saying:

“Allahumma salli wa sallim ‘ala Nabiyyina Muhammad.”

Every salutation is rewarded by Allah, and it strengthens the believer’s love for the Messenger ﷺ.

A Muslim who truly loves the Prophet ﷺ remembers him often and strives to follow his Sunnah.

4. Reflect on Your Week

Jumu’ah is like a weekly checkpoint.

Ask yourself honestly:

Have I improved as a Muslim this week?

Did I pray on time?

Did I read enough Qur’an?

Did I speak kindly to others?

Did I earn my income lawfully?

Did I fulfil my responsibilities to my family?

Self-accountability is one of the characteristics of successful believers.

Before Allah questions us, we should question ourselves.

5. Forgive Someone

Many hearts carry anger for months or even years.

Friday is a beautiful day to let go of resentment.

Forgiving someone does not always mean forgetting what happened.

It means choosing Allah’s reward over personal revenge.

The strongest people are not those who win every argument.

They are those who control their anger and seek Allah’s pleasure.

6. Plan One Good Deed for the Coming Week

A productive Muslim does not leave spiritual growth to chance.

Choose one act of worship that you will improve before next Friday.

Perhaps you will begin praying Tahajjud once a week.

Perhaps you will read one page of the Qur’an every day.

Perhaps you will give charity every Friday.

Small consistent deeds are beloved to Allah.

Real change begins with small commitments that are maintained.

7. Thank Allah for Another Friday

There are countless people who witnessed last Friday but did not live to see this one.

Life is fragile.

Every Jumu’ah is another opportunity that Allah has granted us.

Thank Him for your faith.

Thank Him for your health.

Thank Him for your family.

Thank Him for every blessing you often overlook.

Gratitude increases blessings and softens the heart.

A Final Reminder

As the sun sets today, ask yourself one simple question:

“If this were my last Friday on earth, would I be pleased with how I spent it?”

None of us knows the answer.

That is why every Jumu’ah should be treated as though it may be our final opportunity to draw closer to Allah.

Do not wait until next Friday to become a better Muslim.

Begin today.

Begin now.

Conclusion

Jumu’ah is much more than a weekly congregational prayer. It is a weekly opportunity for renewal, reflection, repentance, and hope.

Before this blessed day ends, make sure you have spoken to Allah more than you have spoken to your phone.

Seek His forgiveness.

Remember His Messenger ﷺ.

Increase your du’a.

Reflect on your life.

And leave this Friday with the sincere intention of becoming a better servant of Allah than you were yesterday.

May Allah accept our Jumu’ah, forgive our sins, answer our supplications, and allow us to witness many more Fridays in good health, strong faith, and sincere obedience. Ameen.
