WHY I CONVERTED FROM CHRISTIANITY TO ISLAM — BURNA BOY

Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, has opened up about his spiritual journey and the reason behind his conversion from Christianity to Islam. According to the globally acclaimed singer, his decision was part of a personal search for deeper spiritual understanding and meaning in life.

In a recent interview with streamer Playboymax, Burna Boy shared that his exploration of different faiths  including Christianity and Islam  has been driven by a desire to uncover the truth about existence and spirituality. However, he admitted that the more he studies, the more questions he finds.

“Growing up, I was a Christian and then I converted to Islam. It’s like I’ve studied it all, but I’m still out here trying to find out what is really going on, you know? The more I research, the more confused I get,” he said.

Despite the confusion that sometimes accompanies deep reflection, Burna Boy emphasized that his journey is ongoing and that he continues to seek personal truth beyond the limits of organized religion. For him, faith remains a deeply personal path rather than a fixed identity.

His revelation comes just months after another Nigerian singer, 9ice, shared his own story of spiritual transformation. The “Gongo Aso” crooner revealed that he embraced the Ifa traditional religion after suffering a mysterious “spiritual attack” that left him bedridden for six months.

In a viral conversation with Nancy Isime, 9ice described the experience as life-changing and expressed regret that he hadn’t turned to the traditional faith earlier in his life.

Burna Boy’s openness about his spiritual exploration adds another layer to the public conversation about faith, identity, and the search for meaning among Nigeria’s top entertainers many of whom are using their platforms to share their evolving spiritual stories.
