The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of eight Muslim travelers who were ambushed on Friday, June 20, 2025, in Mangun village, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
In a statement signed by the Executive Chairman, Disu Kamor, MPAC revealed that the attack targeted a passenger bus carrying twenty-eight (28) Muslims, mostly of Hausa ethnicity, who were traveling through the area when they were violently ambushed by suspected local youths.
The statement disclosed that eight (8) of the passengers were brutally killed, six (6) others sustained various degrees of injuries—one of them critically—while four (4) remain missing as of the time of the report.
MPAC described the attack as a “gross violation of the victims’ rights to life and freedom of movement,” and warned that the incident reflects a disturbing pattern of ethnic profiling and targeted violence against Muslims in parts of Nigeria.
“The deliberate targeting of civilians based solely on their religious identity is a dangerous trend that must not be normalized or tolerated in any society,” the organization warned.
The Centre called on the Federal Government, the Plateau State Government, and all relevant security agencies to take immediate and decisive action to investigate the attack, arrest the perpetrators, and ensure they are prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
“The perpetrators of this heinous crime must be brought to justice without delay,” MPAC emphasized.
The group also criticized the government’s inability to protect the lives and property of Nigerians, stating that such failures continue to endanger national peace, unity, and stability.
MPAC further appealed to community leaders, traditional rulers, and security stakeholders to act collectively to restore peace and safeguard vulnerable communities. It stressed the need for urgent efforts to locate the missing individuals and support the victims’ families.
“We urge security agencies to intensify search efforts for those still missing and ensure the victims and their families receive adequate medical and psychological support,” the statement said.
Additionally, MPAC urged the media to report the incident with fairness and sensitivity. “Selective reporting and the persistent underreporting of anti-Muslim violence only embolden perpetrators and silence the victims,” the group warned.
MPAC concluded its statement by offering prayers and condolences to the families of the victims. “May Allah (SWT) grant the deceased Jannatul Firdaus, heal the injured, and return the missing safely to their loved ones,” the organization prayed
