SPIRITUAL DIGEST: RAMADAN DAY 20 (A DU’A FROM SURAH AL-A’RAF)

The spiritual digest for Ramadan day 20 is a supplication from Surah Al-A’raf (7:126).

رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ

Rabbanaa afrigh alainaa sobran watawaffanaa muslimiiin.

“Our Lord! Pour out on us patience and cause us to die as Muslims (bowing to Your Will).” (Surah Al-A’raf 7:126)

This verse comes from the story of Pharaoh and the magicians during the time of Prophet Musa (AS).

The magicians, who were initially supporters of Pharaoh, accepted Islam after witnessing the miracles of Musa (AS).

In response, Pharaoh threatened to torture and kill them. Instead of fearing death, they made this beautiful dua, asking Allah for patience and a righteous end.

Lessons and Deeper Meaning

1. Patience in the Face of Hardship

  • The magicians faced severe threats from Pharaoh but chose faith over fear.
  • They asked Allah for strength and steadfastness, showing that patience is the best response to challenges.

2. The Power of Sincere Repentance

  • These magicians were once enemies of Islam, yet when they turned to Allah, He accepted them instantly.
  • This proves that no matter how sinful a person is, sincere repentance leads to guidance.

3. A Righteous Death

  • The dua does not just ask for patience but also for a good ending (husnul khatimah)—to die as a true Muslim.
  • This teaches us that remaining steadfast until death should be our ultimate goal.

How This Verse Applies to Us Today

  1. During Hardships: When facing difficulties, recite this dua to ask Allah for patience and endurance.
  2. When Feeling Weak in Faith: If struggling with temptations or trials, seek strength through this supplication.
  3. Asking for a Good Ending: We should constantly pray for a righteous life and a death upon Islam.

Hadith Connection

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

“Indeed, patience is at the first strike of calamity.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1283, Sahih Muslim 926)

This supports the dua’s message—true faith means standing firm in trials.

Conclusion

This powerful dua teaches us to:
Remain patient in trials
Seek Allah’s help in difficulties
Pray for a righteous death

It is a beautiful supplication that we should recite regularly.
