RAMADAN: A SACRED TIME FOR WORSHIP

By: Adedeji Monsurat Adenike

In Islamic belief, Ramadan is the most sacred time for worship, as it encourages Muslims to intensify their devotion, prayer, and good deeds.

It is understood that actions performed during this month bring greater blessings and rewards from Allah, making it a unique opportunity for spiritual renewal and strengthening one’s connection with God.

Key points about Ramadan and worship:

  • Increased rewards: Muslims believe that every good deed performed during Ramadan is multiplied in reward.

  • Fasting and reflection: The fast during daylight hours encourages self-discipline and introspection, allowing for a heightened focus on spiritual practices.

  •   Quran recitation: Muslims spend significant time reading and reflecting on the Quran during Ramadan.

  • Night prayer: The last ten nights of Ramadan are especially significant, with many Muslims dedicating extra time to night prayers in search of Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree).

  • Charity and community: Ramadan is also a time to emphasize acts of charity and strengthen community bonds through shared meals and gatherings.
