RULES, IMPORTANCE OF ZAKAT-UL-FITR – UMMU FATIMAH

What is Zakat-Ul-Fitr?

Zakat-Ul-Fitr is a compulsory charitable donation of food to the poor and needy. It normally comes up 2 days to the end of Ramadan, or before Eid prayer on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Reasons/Importance of Zakat-Ul-Fitr

1. It serves as correction to evils we’ve committed during Ramadan, just like prostration of forgetfulness is correction to mistakes on prayer.

2. To make people happy especially the needy and poor.

Who do we give it to?

The poor and the needy ones.

Is it obligatory?

Yes it’s obligatory for Muslims, be it slave, free man, woman and children.

However, It is the role of the Father as the head of the family to take care of those under him who don’t have the capacity.

Likewise, it is obligatory on self supporting to give out his or her zakaat fitri on behalf of himself.

What can we use for Zakat-Ul-Fitr?

Available food that’s eatable and presentable can be used.

When do we give out Zakat-Ul-Fitr?

It can be given out 2days to Eid or on the day of Eid before going to Eid.

According Sunnah, it is good to delay Eid fitri prayer in order for people giving out Zakat-Ul-Fitr and those that will take breakfast to meet up with the prayer.

Furthermore, using alternate route while coming back from Eid is also a sunnah.

Meanwhile, the one who give Zakat-Ul-Fitr before commencement of Eid prayer will have reward of Zakat, while the one who give it after prayer is just like normal charity.

Importance of attending Eid

1. Remembrance of Allah.

2. Listening to khutbah.

May Almighty Allah accept our Ibadah and forgive us our sins.
