DON’T RUSH WHAT ALLAH HAS NOT GIVEN YOU YET
Your friends are graduating, but you are still studying.
Someone your age has a good job, while you are still searching.
Others are getting married, building businesses or achieving goals you have been praying for.
And suddenly, you begin to feel left behind.
You start asking yourself, “Am I doing something wrong? Why is everyone moving forward except me?”
Dear young Muslim, **someone else’s timeline is not the standard by which you should measure your life.**
Allah says: “And be patient, for indeed, Allah does not allow the reward of those who do good to be lost.” Qur’an 11:115** — translation of the meaning.
YOU ARE NOT IN A RACE AGAINST EVERYONE
Social media can make you feel as though you must achieve everything before a certain age.
You must graduate early.
You must become financially independent quickly.
You must get married before your friends.
You must have your entire life figured out while you are still learning about yourself.
But life is not a competition in which the person who achieves something first is automatically the most successful.
People have different circumstances, responsibilities, opportunities and challenges.
Your journey may look different from someone else’s, and that does not automatically mean you are failing.
PATIENCE DOES NOT MEAN GIVING UP
Being patient does not mean you should stop working towards your goals.
If you want a better job, continue developing your skills.
If you want to improve academically, create a realistic study plan.
If you are hoping to get married, prepare yourself emotionally and spiritually while seeking a suitable spouse through halal means.
If you are trying to grow closer to Allah, start with consistent acts of worship rather than waiting until you feel perfect.
Trust Allah, but do not use trust as an excuse to avoid effort.
You can be patient and ambitious at the same time.
BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ALLOW COMPARISON TO DO TO YOUR HEART
When you constantly compare yourself with others, you may become ungrateful for your own blessings.
You may begin to resent people who have done nothing wrong to you.
You may even rush into decisions simply because you do not want to feel left behind.
Do not allow comparison to push you into a marriage you are not prepared for, a financial decision you cannot afford or a path that conflicts with your values.
Celebrate other people’s blessings while continuing to work towards your own goals.
Their progress does not cancel your possibilities.
### YOUR JOB IS TO KEEP MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
You may not have everything you want today.
But you can learn something new today.
You can improve your character today.
You can become more consistent in salah today.
You can take one practical step towards your goals today.
Do not despise small beginnings.
You may not understand your current season, but you can still use it wisely.
**You are allowed to grow at your own pace while remaining committed to your responsibilities and your deen.**
May Allah grant us patience, contentment and wisdom, and bless us with what is good for us at the right time. Ameen.
