DON’T LET THIS JUMU’AH BE JUST ANOTHER FRIDAY
Every Friday arrives with the same twenty-four hours, yet not every Muslim leaves it with the same reward. For some, Jumu’ah becomes a day that brings forgiveness, renewed faith, and answered supplications. For others, it passes like any ordinary day, leaving little impact on their hearts.
The difference is not in the day itself it is in how we spend it.
Jumu’ah is a weekly gift from Allah. It is an opportunity to pause from the busyness of life, reflect on our relationship with our Creator, and begin a new week with a purified heart. Rather than treating Friday as simply the day we attend the mosque, we should see it as a day to increase our worship from morning until sunset.
One of the best ways to honour Friday is to prepare for it properly. Wake up with the intention of making the day different from every other day. Perform ghusl, wear clean clothes, and attend the mosque with a heart eager to receive guidance. Arriving early allows time for voluntary prayers, recitation of the Qur’an, and quiet reflection before the khutbah begins.
Another important habit is to increase the recitation of Surah Al-Kahf. The Prophet ﷺ encouraged Muslims to recite this surah on Friday, reminding us that the Qur’an should remain at the centre of our lives. Even if you cannot recite it all at once, make time throughout the day to complete it with understanding and reflection.
Friday is also the day to send abundant salutations upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Every salawat we send is a means of drawing closer to Allah and expressing our love for His Messenger. It takes only a few moments, yet its rewards are immense.
Perhaps the greatest mistake we make on Jumu’ah is allowing distractions to dominate our day. Phones, social media, business, and entertainment can easily consume the hours that should have been devoted to worship. While these activities may not be prohibited in themselves, they should not overshadow the unique blessings of Friday.
As the day draws to a close, do not forget the final hour before Maghrib. Many scholars regard this as the time in which du’a is especially likely to be accepted. Raise your hands and ask Allah sincerely for forgiveness, guidance, lawful provision, good health, righteous children, beneficial knowledge, and success in this world and the Hereafter.
Before Friday ends, take a few moments to evaluate yourself. Did today’s khutbah inspire you to change? Have you sought forgiveness? Have you remembered Allah often? Have you reached out to someone you wronged or strengthened ties with your family?
The true success of Jumu’ah is not measured by simply attending the prayer. It is measured by the effect it has on our character and our obedience to Allah after we leave the mosque.
Let this Friday be the one that changes a habit, softens a heart, strengthens your iman, or brings you one step closer to Jannah.
May Allah accept our Jumu’ah, forgive our sins, answer our du’as, and allow us to witness many more Fridays in His obedience. Ameen.
