WHY EVERY MUSLIM SHOULD HAVE A DAILY PORTION OF THE QUR’AN
One of the habits that transformed the lives of the companions of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was their constant relationship with the Qur’an. It was not a book they opened occasionally; it was a guide they lived by every day.
Today, many Muslims desire a stronger connection with Allah but often overlook one of the most effective ways to achieve it: regular recitation of the Qur’an. Even a few verses each day can have a lasting impact on a person’s faith, character, and outlook on life.
The Qur’an is a source of guidance, mercy, healing, and light. It provides answers during times of confusion, comfort during periods of hardship, and reminders when faith begins to weaken. A Muslim who regularly engages with the Qur’an is constantly reconnecting with the words of Allah.
One common challenge is the belief that there must be a large amount of free time before one can read the Qur’an. In reality, consistency is more important than quantity. Reading one page daily without fail is often better than reading several chapters once in a while and then abandoning the habit.
The early Muslims made the Qur’an a central part of their routine. They understood that spiritual growth does not happen by accident. Just as the body requires daily nourishment, the heart requires regular reminders from the Book of Allah.
A daily portion of the Qur’an also helps Muslims remain conscious of their responsibilities and actions. When a believer regularly reads verses about accountability, mercy, patience, gratitude, and righteousness, those values naturally influence daily behavior.
Parents should also encourage this habit within their families. A household in which the Qur’an is recited regularly experiences a different atmosphere one filled with remembrance of Allah and spiritual awareness.
For those who struggle with consistency, starting small is the key. One page after Fajr, a few verses before sleeping, or a fixed daily target can gradually become a lifelong practice. What matters most is perseverance.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that the most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are consistent, even if they are small. This principle applies perfectly to Qur’an recitation.
As Muslims strive to strengthen their faith, they should remember that the Qur’an is not merely a book to be read during Ramadan or special occasions. It is a companion for every day of life.
The question every Muslim should ask is simple: If Allah has spoken to us through the Qur’an, how much time do we spend listening to His words?
May Allah make the Qur’an the spring of our hearts, the light of our chests, and a guide for us in this world and the Hereafter. Ameen.
