HOW TO SEARCH FOR LAYLATUL QADR IN THE ODD NIGHTS
The final ten nights of Ramadan are the most blessed nights of the entire year. Within these nights lies Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree a night so valuable that Allah describes it in the Qur’an as better than a thousand months.
This means that worship performed on that single night is greater than worship performed for more than eighty years. For believers, this is one of the greatest opportunities Allah has given the Ummah.
But one important wisdom surrounding Laylatul Qadr is that its exact date has not been revealed. Instead, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) instructed Muslims to search for it during the last ten nights of Ramadan, particularly the odd nights.
These nights include the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, and 29th nights of Ramadan.
This guidance encourages believers to remain consistent in worship throughout all the final nights rather than focusing their effort on just one night.
So how should a believer search for Laylatul Qadr?
The first step is increasing night prayers. The Prophet said that whoever stands in prayer during Laylatul Qadr with faith and hope for reward will have their previous sins forgiven. Even if a person cannot spend the entire night praying, dedicating a portion of the night to sincere prayer can carry immense reward.
Another important act is reciting the Qur’an. Ramadan is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed, and Laylatul Qadr marks the beginning of that revelation. Reading, listening to, and reflecting upon the Qur’an during these nights strengthens faith and brings the heart closer to Allah.
Believers should also make abundant dua. Laylatul Qadr is a night when prayers are accepted. One of the most powerful supplications taught by the Prophet for these nights is:
“Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni.”
“O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me.”
This dua focuses on seeking forgiveness, which is one of the greatest blessings a believer can receive.
Another way to search for Laylatul Qadr is through increased remembrance of Allah. Simple phrases like *SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, and La ilaha illa Allah carry immense rewards and keep the heart connected to Allah throughout the night.
Giving **charity** during these nights is also highly recommended. Even a small act of charity may fall on Laylatul Qadr itself, multiplying its reward beyond imagination.
Most importantly, believers should approach these nights with **sincerity and hope. The search for Laylatul Qadr is not only about performing many actions but about turning to Allah with a humble and sincere heart.
Ramadan is quickly coming to an end, but the doors of mercy remain wide open.
The odd nights of the last ten days carry opportunities that may never return again in our lifetime.
So do not let them pass like ordinary nights.
Stand in prayer. Recite the Qur’an. Make heartfelt dua and seek Allah’s forgiveness.
Because one of these nights could be the night that changes your life forever.
