SPIRITUAL DIGEST: RAMADAN DAY 9 (A DU’A FOR PATIENCE AND VICTORY)

By: Ajape Sefiu A., Adedeji Monsurat A.

The spiritual digest for the 9th day of Ramadan is a powerful Du’a from Surah Al-Baqarah (2:250).

رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ

Rabbana afrigh ‘alayna sabran wa thabbit aqdamana wansurna ‘alal qawmil kafireen

Our Lord! Bestow on us endurance, make our steps firm, and grant us victory over the disbelieving people.

This du’a was made by the believers during a battle, as they faced overwhelming odds. It is found in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:250), in the story of Talut (Saul) and Jalut (Goliath).

– When Talut led the believers into battle, they were far fewer than their enemy.
– Despite this, they put their trust in Allah’s support and sought His strength, patience, and victory through this powerful supplication.
– Immediately after this verse (2:251), Allah granted them victory, showing that divine help comes to those who have patience and faith.

Key Lessons & Reflections

1. The Power of Patience (Sabr)

    • The first request in this du’a is for sabr (endurance)—not just passive patience, but strength to persevere through hardship.
    • In any challenge (whether personal struggles, difficulties in faith, or major battles in life), we should seek Allah’s help in remaining steadfast.

2. Stability in the Face of Hardship

    • “Make our steps firm” refers to both physical and emotional stability.
    • In times of fear, doubt, or difficulty, this du’a helps us stay strong and unwavering in our beliefs and actions.

3. Seeking Allah’s Victory

    • True success and victory come only through Allah’s help.
    • Whether facing external enemies or personal battles (such as against sins, laziness, or hardships), we must turn to Allah for guidance and support.

Practical Applications

  •  Recite this du’a in times of difficulty, whether in exams, personal struggles, conflicts, or any challenging situation.
  • Trust that Allah’s help will come, just as it did for the believers in this verse.
  • Remain patient and steadfast, knowing that struggles often lead to greater rewards.
  • Use this du’a to seek Allah’s strength in staying firm in faith and overcoming obstacles.
