JOINT MUSLIM FORUM DENOUNCES WIDELY SHARED VIDEO OF MASQUERADE IMITATING MUSLIM PRAYER

Amir Ajala added that another disguise had publicly provoked Muslim prayers in 2021 in a similar manner. The police were promptly notified of the regrettable occurrence as a law-abiding group

Lagos Island’s Muslim community, represented by the Joint Muslim Forum, has denounced the viral social media video that purports to depict a masquerade imitating the Muslim prayer, or salat.

The film was deemed inflammatory and disrespectful of Muslims’ religious practice by the concerned group.

According to information obtained, the unsettling occurrence that is currently creating friction between the locals and the Muslim community happened last Thursday at the Idunmota bus stop on Lagos Island.

As part of steps to prevent a breakdown of law and order, the group’s leadership in Lagos Island, led by Ustaz Qamardeen Ajala, has petitioned the Lagos State Police Command at Zone 2, Onikan, requesting the quick arrest of offenders.

He claimed that the regrettable protest, which drew a sizable audience, was inflammatory and a purposeful assault on Muslims and the faith.

Qamardeen Ajala maintained that it was improper for anyone or any group of individuals to depict Islam in an embarrassing and humorous way, even though it is evident that there is no religious obligation in Islam.

The terrible occurrence was promptly reported to the police as a peaceful organization and law-abiding residents, Amir Ajala added, noting that another masquerade had publicly provoked Muslim prayers in 2021 in a similar manner.

“At a gathering at a shrine near Sura Market about three years ago, an Egungun Okanke publicly performed Muslim prayers while holding a rosary, and this act was shared on social media,” he recounted.

After hearing about the incident, ASP Bodeoja, the Area Commander at the time, invited Ope One and Oluwo Jakande, two well-known individuals, to a meeting and warned them not to commit the same crimes again.

However, Ustaz Qamardeen Ajala urged Muslims and other locals to maintain their composure and refrain from enforcing laws over the issue.

He urged the Commissioner of Police and the Lagos State Government to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and apprehend those responsible.

“We humbly ask that your esteemed offices call a meeting with pertinent parties and issue an order to stop any additional measures that can spark religious disturbance. We have faith that prompt action will maintain community harmony.
